While the opposition players – Thailand were in tears as a result of their loss, they were however never a real threat to the US national team. 

Fans described the jubilation as unsporting and disgusting

Even with that, the three times Women’s World cup champions had no mindset to go easy on an opponent in their opening game.

Accordingly, Alex Morgan knotted the tournament record with 5 goals and the United States soccer team opened with a historical 13-0 goal. Rose Lavelle and Samantha Mewis had added a pair of goals for the United State, and this broke the record for goals and margin of victory in the World Cup Universe.
