Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram (Fully Raw Kristina) is a raw vegan activist, writer, and speaker. She is the founder and developer of the Rawfully Organic cooperative FullyRaw. Her YouTube channel, where she talks about a range of issues but primarily provides raw vegan recipes, has over 90 million subscribers. Her social media channels collectively have over three million followers.
Early Life of Fully Raw Kristina
Carrillo-Bucaram was diagnosed with hyperglycemia or elevated blood sugar and the early stages of Type 2 diabetes when she was 16 years old. She alleges that her Hyperglycaemic condition led her to become malnourished, weighing just 87 pounds (39 kg) and standing 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) tall. Carrillo-Bucaram studied at Vanderbilt University before graduating from Rice University in 2009 with the summa cum laude award and was chosen to Phi Beta Kappa for completing at least 90 semester hours in courses that represent “learning for its own purpose.”
Health and Diet
Carrillo-Bucaram met John Rose, a raw foods instructor, in a Whole Foods store when she was 18 years old. He described raw veganism to her, and this conversation influenced her decision to become a raw vegan on July 15, 2005. She has made health claims such as going raw would change your eye color and have advocated Iridology’s debunked technique.
Business and Movement
She established a farmer’s market on her
campus to appeal to college students who would not otherwise be able to
purchase veggies and other goods. Running the market assisted her in developing
relationships with local farmers and product wholesalers, which led to the
establishment of her own food cooperative in September 2007.
Rawfully Organic was the largest organic produce co-op at its height, serving 50,000 people at three different locations in the Houston area. After almost 11 years of operation, Rawfully Organic closed its doors in 2017 and re-opened temporarily in April 2020. Organizer, there’s too much competition from major grocers like Whole Foods.
FullyRaw is a Rawfully Organic sister brand
that sells fully raw juices. She started it in 2013 with the aid of a
Kickstarter campaign to help fund the start-up costs. She raised $35,000 for
the cause. FullyRaw is a website she created to help individuals get started
and stay on track with a raw vegan diet. She offers webinars, seminars, and
one-on-one health coaching.
Carrillo-Bucaram authored and published The
Fully Raw Diet: 21 Days to Better Health, with Meal and Exercise Plans, Tips,
and 75 Recipes on January 5, 2016. The book includes meal plans, workouts, and
recipes, as well as the tale of her health journey.
