Chef Jamie Oliver has been receiving some punches lately, and not just in his kitchen.
With his #AdEnough campaign, the celebrity has been pushing for a sugar tax that will increase the cost of sugary junk food.
He had explained to MPs that the tax was for good, adding that it is a tax for love. Many people have however found his statement and campaign hypocritical and as described harmful.
Reportedly, the celebrity chef has a cookie and cream drink, served in a chocolate cup containing 46 teaspoons of sugar – six times the daily recommended amount of sugar for an adolescent.
This, however, has got many individuals angry and took issue with it. A particular Twitter User, Ketty Hopkins displayed a thread that went really viral. She explained exactly why the proposed tax on sugar will affect the poorer communities rather than assist them.
Celebrity Chef Oliver has been on a campaign to tax both sugary and fatty junk food, of which he had announced will help lower-income communities – not everyone however agreed.
Ketty pointed out how Chef Oliver action would affect the communities he claimed to help. This was however hinged on her experience.
Adding that, Government should change the system that keeps them at disadvantaged instead.
Reacting, a foreigner in the United Kingdom also compared how expensive healthy eating was.
She was further applauded by the eye- opening thread.
