Dame Vera Lynn Still Smiling At 102 During An Outing With Family In Brighton

Vera at age 11, had given up school for a life as a musician.

The Forces’ Sweetheart, Vera Lynn, aged 102, smiled as she waved to fans in an appearance made in Brighton in early July.

Vera Lynn, who is well-known as a wartime singer was heading off on a trip around the seaside resort with Virginia Lewis-Jones, 73 (Vera Lynn daughter) and alongside Tom Jones – Her Tory Councillor Husband.

She had started singing from the age of seven, and couldn’t hold back but greet the onlookers. Coincidentally, it was just less than a week after the Armed Forces Day on June 29.

In 2018, Vera had received a Lifetime Achievement Honor at the Classic Brits Award. This was given to Vera for her service in the entertainment industry.

Her musical performances and recordings had first gained recognition during the Second World War.

And now, she has become the oldest living artist to have scored a top 10 album on the official Album chart which features most of Vera’s best-known song, including covers by singers and an earlier unreleased recording of Lynn singing Sailing.

While it also featured the 1972 Sutherland Brothers song and Auf Wiederseh’n Sweetheart, Vera had expressed it was truly humbling to still see people enjoy her kind of songs, even after many years, adding that it indeed reliving the emotions of that period.

She added: ‘I was, after all, just doing my job as a singer – and it’s so wonderful for me to hear my songs again so beautifully presented in a completely new way.’

In 2018, Vera had received a Lifetime Achievement Honor at the Classic Brits Award.

Landing a spot singing with the Ambrose Orchestra on the Radio Program Life from Mayfair, Vera in 1937 was recognized as one of the country’s most popular singer.
