Leo And Kate Have Been Inseparable For 23 Years, Here’s How This Iconic Friendship Started And Developed

More often than not, love and friendships in Hollywood are seen as summer flings, very memorable but don’t last long; but the friendship between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet is completely different.

They two have been best of friends for 23 years now and it’s safe to say, theirs may never end.

We have been inspired by these actors and perhaps inspired a story on how Leo and Kate started and how their friendship has developed over time.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet met on the set of Titanic in 1996. She was 21 years old and he was 22. Their onscreen chemistry was exceptional, enough to spark rumors about their relationship in real life. Winslet has said multiple times that during the shooting process, Leo helped her fight her low self-esteem.

While shooting for the movie, when Kate found out she was supposed to appear in front of Leo completely naked, she made a radical decision. She put a coat on over her naked body and when they first met, Kate just opened it in front of him. She thought that this brave gesture would help them avoid an awkward situation during the shooting of the scene.

The actors have maintained their strong relationship even after the Titanic and they both maintain that it has never been more than platonic.

Their second project together was the film Revolutionary Road (2008). In the film, Kate and Leo were a married couple. The director of the film was Sam Mendes and, at the time, he was Kate Winslet’s husband.

After the film was shot, Leo presented Kate with a ring with an engraving only they know the actress won. As the actress was receiving the Golden Globe for her role in the Revolutionary Road, she had some few nice words dedicated to her partner in the film. Leo was seen blowing kisses at her.

 Interestingly, when it was announced that Kate was the winner of the award, the first person she hugged was Leo, and her husband came next. However, since the two actors met, Kate’s life has been a bit dramatic. The actress has been married twice and she has been through some very tough break-ups. She has 2 children from these relationships and raising them was hard, given her tight work schedule. During these times, Leo even managed to help Kate with the children.

In December 2012,  Leo walked Kate down the aisle as she got married to Ned Rocknroll, Several years later, Kate’s mother died from cancer. As the actress said, her friend Leo literally saved her from despair.

In 2016, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for an Oscar for The Revenant and Kate decided to support her friend since she was feeling that he would finally get the award.

In one of the interviews, Kate said that they’ve managed to build and save such a strong friendship because they have never been in love with each other and have never even flirted with each other. Leo has said that he always loved working with Kate.
