Instagram Reportedly Developing Messaging App Called ‘Threads’ To Take On Snapchat
My phone is full of social media app already.
Firstly reported by The Verge, Facebook has a new app in development to fight against one of their biggest competitor Snapchat. The new app, dubbed ‘Threads’ is going to allow users to share even more personal data such as location, speed, and battery life with your friends. This along with the typical text, pictures, and videos you can share.
Back in 2017, another new app allegedly called ‘Direct’ was started, but it has been ceased due to beta testers complaining about it. The app is a dedicated messaging app, but testers claim it’s not convenient to switch in between apps.
But Facebook and Instagram have not given up on creating a convenient, interesting and engaging messaging app that people enjoy. Reports have also shown that Snapchat, which excels very well in the field, have users engaged longer in their app compared to Instagram.
Threads will update your status in real-live, but will not include your exact location. It will simply put up ‘on the go’, for example, if you are moving. The app will also work on a one-tap-sharing feature that allows users to share whatever they snap through the app’s camera.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that the future of the company will revolve around private messaging. While it’s possible this project will cease as they did with ‘Direct’ before we ever experience it, the company doesn’t seem to be giving up any time soon.
