Mackenzie Pledged Fortune: Could This Affect Amazon?
The chase is up.
Mackenzie and her husband Jeff Bezos are divorced after 25years of marriage. While the couple had announced the divorce in a joint statement released in January, Mackenzie has now received more than $35billion, and has signed the giving pledge to donate more than half to charity.
“We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand. In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share.” She stated in a letter declaring her decision.
Touching, but could this affect Amazon or Jeff Bezos?
Losing its Title
Indeed, Jeff or Amazon is expected to feel the shakes. With his most expensive divorce in history, Bezos will however no longer be the richest man in the world; the title will be heading to Bill Gates whose net worth is currently an estimated $102 billion. Although, Bezos, the wealthiest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index is still worth $114 billion – but there’s a likely chance for a drop.
Amazon – Facing the Heat
While a larger shrunk of the fortune given to his ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos, required selling over 80million Amazon Shares, it is envisaged that it will largely affect Jeff’s ownership and control of the company. Reportedly, the division of the assets means Jeff would only be entitled to 8.15 percent of the company. Nevertheless, Amazon origin story has been tied to Jeff Bezos, who claims the most valuable company started from his garage and after marrying MacKenzie, whom he met while working at the New York City-based hedge fund D.E. Shaw.
Despite the hurdle, Still Supportive
Still, Jeff Bezos celebrated his, saying via Twitter “MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I’m proud of her.”
So far – How’s MacKenzie Bezos Doing?
Seem happy, MacKenzie is currently concerned about her more than half billion donation to charity. She claims she will be giving it a careful thought, most especially on how she will distribute the money. “It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.
Furthermore, MacKenzie, who had in the past backed several social and charity initiatives, from funding research into cancer and Alzheimer’s disease to pushing for marriage equality is currently chairing her Bystander Revolution, an anti-bullying group founded in 2013. If there are other upcoming plans in the pipeline, Waterballoon will give you updates shortly.
Jeff and MacKenzie Last Milestone
In late 2018, Bezos and his then wife had spent over $2 billion to support homeless families and they gave millions to TheDream. US, which offers college scholarships for undocumented refugees brought to the United States.
