AGT: Kodi Lee Can Perform As Usual Without Restrictions
The audience and judges didn’t know what to expect when a boy on a walking stick walks onto the stage with a woman. It turns out that the 22-year-old man is blind with autism, but loves music so very much.
His mother, Tina, who helped him get on stage and prepare for his show, explains his special situation. ” It actually has saved his life playing music,” she said with a smile in her face.
What happened for the next one and a half minute later baffled everyone. Kodi Lee did an amazing cover of “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway while playing the piano. His soulful performance granted him the golden buzzer from the first-time judge, Gabrielle Union.
“What just happened there was extraordinary, I mean really extraordinary. I don’t know what it’s like to live in Kodi’s world. All I can tell is you obviously have an amazing relationship the two of you and your voice is absolutely fantastic,” praised Simon Cowell.
He was granted the first one-way ticket for the live show through the golden buzzer and is still allowed to perform in order to keep his career alive. Kodi Lee as well as several other contestants whose expertise are art, can perform because “…many AGT contestants make a living off their art, so it wouldn’t be right for the show to keep them from that”, says a source.
