‘Avengers: Endgame’ Had A Starking Different End For Black Widow

The filming of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was one the actors and actresses can never forget. Brought together by Russo brothers, Kevin Feige and of course, the late Stan Lee, we will always be eternally grateful by it. But you know, if only, just saying, they did not give that end to Black Widow, it might be a tad better for us.

The highest-grossing film ever had a couple of re-shots but among them, that mattered a lot was the part where Black Widow experienced a different end.

SPOILER ALERT. Obviously.

In the movie, we all remember Black Widow’s fight with Hawkeye in order to figure who should sacrifice themselves for the soul stone. It’s interesting to see that they both understood one thing: their most precious is each other as comrades, as friends, as soulmates. While Hawkeye believes he could only redeem himself through this, Black Widow thinks he still has a physical family to protect and she still has red in her ledger.

In the home release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, we got a lot of insight through the commentary that Joe and Russo did in filming the movie. In particular, the part where they touched on Black Widow’s end. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed more about the initial draft.

“We actually reshot this. This is much better than what we had. It was a little more complicated. It was Thanos sending a small army to pretend to try and stop them. It was sort of awkward. It was overthinking,” McFeely explained.

Markus chimed in, “While it lit a fire under them to do the act, it also took a little bit of the agency away, and we lost the characters.”

So, yes, the end product was still the same – Black Widow would still die, but it would have made as if the circumstances made her do so. What we saw was a fight of will between two heroes and friends in making the necessary sacrifices and made her death more honorary and meaningful.

But hey, that said, Black Widow’s last appearance isn’t Endgame because her standalone movie is coming up next as an opening movie for Phase 4. On May 1, 2020, Black Widow is returning to the screen and tells her story, possibly from when she was still an assassin and more.
