California’s Last Gray Wolf Stunned Everyone By Giving Birth To Three New Pups

Wolves were once wiped out by farmers and ranchers.

Eight years back, a gray wolf was seen wandering in California, bring back the species to the states after being wiped out by ranchers and farmers since the 1920s.  Now, the same gray wolf, according to the Officials from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has given birth to three new wolf pups to the Lassen Pack.

The wolf pups alongside with two adult wolves were captured in a Video on June 18 in a remote area – 100 miles from the border of Oregon.

Right after the pups were given birth to, the total number of gray wolves living in the state of California grew to around seven to ten wolves, making it quite difficult to determine the exact number of wolves roaming into other states. Two wolves in California are, however wearing a radio collar.

After the re-introduction of the wolf population in 1995-1996, the total number of wolves has gradually grown in the United States. A dozen of wolves have been brought from Canada and now released in the Frank Church Wilderness In Idaho and in Yellowstone National Park.

As a result, a wolf in 2011 was sighted to have wandered from Oregon to California, thus reemerging the wolf population in the state.

Right from the year 1995, conservationists have been putting huge efforts on bringing back wolves to the state

“Wolves are significant for the ecosystems. They are a very important thread in the tapestry of nature and are equally part of what keeps nature quite healthy.” A biologist and Senior Advocate for the Center for Biological Diversity – Amarow Weiss explained.

And obviously, the efforts are bearing fruits
