Shang-Chi: Aquaman’s Costume Designer Kym Barrett Is On Board

Shang-chi seems to be a larger project than we thought with all these pros on board!

More and more news on a new superhero of Chinese ethnicity is being covered. This time, we heard about the film production involving Kym Barrett from ‘Aquaman’ to design Shang-chi’s costumer. IMdBPro has updated their list with Kym Barrett who joins Destin Daniel Cretton in directing the Phase 4 movie.

Barrett is most well-known for his works on ‘The Matrix’ trilogy, ‘The Amazing Spider-man’, ‘Aquaman’ and most recently, ‘Charlie’s Angels’. Along with Barrett is Sue Chan, production designer of ‘Colossal’ and ‘300: Rise of an Empire’. Christopher Townsend, VFX supervisor from ‘Captain Marvel‘ is also on board.

Barrett has won a Costume Designers Guild Awards nomination for his works on ‘Aquaman’ and aside from this, he has five Saturn Award nominations.

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ boss, talks about the project being a risky one for the house.

“I think every movie that we do is a risk. We only want to do movies that people seem to think are risks. Doing the story of an Asian-American hero of Chinese heritage is something that is very intriguing to us. It will be really different and special.”

“I hope audiences around the world respond to it in the same way they did to Steve Rogers… whether they have [an] American flag or not. It’s about the individual storyline, spectacle, and adventure that come with Marvel Studios movies.”

We’ll see how Kym Barrett will reimagine the costume for Shang-chi.

There have also been rumors of who will play the main hero and villain in the movie. Of course, we have some popular and on the rise actors lining up with the possibility of earning the roles.
