Savage Ricky Gervais Begins Production for After Life Season 2

That’s the news.

Okay, so we can’t go Gervais-savage, but at least we can assure you this: you’ll get more dose of dark humor by Ricky Gervais by next year. He’s prepping all the good stuff right now.

While posting this picture yesterday on Instagram, Ricky Gervais confirms the beginning of After Life preproduction for season 2.

Ricky added the following caption:

“I start preproduction on #AfterLife2 next week and film it in September and October. Then I’m bringing #SuperNature to Europe! Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Prague to start with.

Stay Tuned for details.”

The British star, writer and director of his own dark humor plays Tony who is grieved by the sudden loss of his wife, Lisa (Kerry Godliman). In order to cope with it, Tony refuses help and began living his life as a grumpy, slightly evil middle-aged man who is just trying to find a meaning of life.

The series lasted 6 episodes and Gervais was praised for his sharp and witty comebacks, even when it comes to kids. Since the success and positive feedback of viewers, Netflix gave the green light for a return of another season.

Back in March, Gervais already talked about having ideas of what season 2 is going to be.

“I always do that just in case I die! Now I’ve thought about it, and I really would like to do a second series because I fell in love with the characters and I’ve got an idea of where it can go.

“The second series is always better. Usually, because you know the actors. There’s a little clue at the end of series one when he says, ‘I’m just going to use my superpower for good’. He can still be an a**hole, and just enjoy it more.”

He confirmed the finish of the first draft in May with this picture.

While Ricky Gervais handled the death of his wife pretty pessimistically in a sitcom, some people don’t sit well with the way he jokes about it. The controversial subject brought him to answer to how he tackles this in his show:

“I treat it respectfully. Everyone assumes comedy about something is disrespectful. So I’ve heard roundtables on radio shows discussing why Ricky Gervais shouldn’t be making jokes about these subjects, and I’m like, ‘Well you’re talking about it, I’m just doing it in a funny way.'”
