Ben Affleck’s Abandoned Script Was Going To Dive Deeper On The ‘Insanity Aspects’

Sad to see this script gone.

An all-new Batman movie was initially going to be written and directed by Ben Affleck, the man behind the caped crusader. But since he left the spot for a ‘younger Batman’ to shine, Matt Reeves is entering to write and direct the movie. Robbert Pattison has been chosen as the next man behind the bat costume.

Since then, the previous script by Ben Affleck has been discarded as Matt Reeves will be going on with his own. But cinematographer Robert Richardson revealed in a podcast from Happy Sad Confused that Affleck’s next Batman movie will be even darker than ever.

“Well, he was going more into the insanity aspects. So I think you would’ve seen something a little darker than what we’ve seen in the past and more into the individual, who’s inside Batman, what element may be sane and what element may actually not be sane,” says Richardson in the podcast.

“So he was entering into a little more of the Arkham, as you know, he’s going into where you keep everyone who was bad, everyone that shifted and Batman.”

It’s certainly interesting to see that while Marvel movies are moving towards lighter and comedic tones in their movies, DC has been the dark side of the superhero movies. Batman is certainly one that can never be a comedy show and the movies were not even close to showing the dark side of the knight.

In Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, it will also show the madman visiting “Arkham Hospital” while Arkham Asylum is so rarely seen. Batman is not just a caped crusader – he was on the inside, a man who went through losses that could not be reverted. The death of his parents was the trigger, Robin’s death became the catalyst and he finally came to a conclusion that Superman must die at the peak.

But, well, we won’t be able to see of that now. The all-new Batman is slated to be released on June 2021.
