Design Studio Placed Public Punching Bags On NY Streets For People To Vent Out Anger

Indeed, many friendships, marriages, and relationships will be calm and perfect if we all had punched bags to push out anger and stress. This is, however, what a US design Studio envisaged as it has created and installed public punching bags on the streets of Manhattan for its occupants.

The initiative which was taken by donttakethisthewrongway –a collective based out of Savannah, Georgia, witnessed an Instagram user sharing a picture of herself punching the bag in public to take out all her anger.

She wrote a caption stating “This is AWESOME. I don’t know who to thank for this – OH MY WORD – THANK YOU! We need more of this. A public punching bag! Currently on 11th Avenue and 37th (?) Street… So much angst, so little time.”

Inspired by boxing training and as a contribution to New York Design Week 2019, many people appreciated the design studio for the innovation. Another user wrote, “Amazing breakthrough thinking for a social solution. Congrats guys! Another also stated, “This is close to where I work. I’ll have to go check it out in person!”

Talking about the initiative, the group behind the idea said, “The concept explores designing common spaces for the frustrations we all face. Frustrations that go beyond designed systems and happen, well, because we are human.”

Equally, the group also noted that the public punching bags offer an outlet for these emotions as a means to maybe develop a healthier way to address both collective and personal issues in public settings.
