Eddie Murphy is back! And his name is Dolemite.
Eddie Murphy has been getting fewer roles recently. He’s starred in only three major movies for the past decade – ‘Tower Heist’, ‘A Thousand Words’, and ‘Mr. Church’.
‘Dolemite Is My Name’ is directed by Craig Brewer from ‘Hustle & Flow’ and sees Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore who’s already a well-known actor in blaxploitation films and calls himself Dolemite. Summary of the movie reads:
“When Hollywood shuts him out, multi-talented Rudy Ray Moore strikes out on his own to make the 1975 blaxploitation film “Dolemite.” Eddie Murphy stars.”
Speaking about the movie, Brewer said, “The most important thing to realize with this project is that this was his project; he wanted to tell the story of Rudy Ray Moore.”
He continued, “I had known Eddie and he looked at Hustle & Flow and saw the same kind of themes in that movie as this was one, and he’s the one who really supported me being the director of this.
“We’ve established a really great, respectful working relationship. Also, I just wanted to work my ass off to see him on the big screen again doing what he does best.”
Another star to this movie is Wesley Snipes who’s also signed on ‘Coming to America 2’ where the project involves the same three core people from this movie. Other stars in this movie are Tituss Burgess, Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Keegan-Michael Key, and Snoop Dogg.
