Apparently, farmers are now protecting their cattle and calves from the severe weather with Earmuffs. And while the young calves require much attention since they are vulnerable to the dangers, their owners are safeguarding them attractive clothing.
Twitter Users, brought this innovation into the limelight when a picture of a young calf was posted wearing a pink Earmuffs.
@ThisFarmingMan_, who shared photos on his account, had already garnered over 170k likes and so many individuals are quite obsessed with the recent fashion trend for cows.
However, it is essential to safeguard calves from cold as it can develop severe frostbite body parts as well as death and hypothermia.
Speaking concerning Frostbite, Dr. W. Dee Whittier in a paper titled “Calves and the Cold”, explained that frostbite damages the body tissues, adding that the extremities are most at risk.
“Freeze tails and ears often result in changes in cattle appearance, but do not affect cattle performance. The Calves are not fully capable of maintaining temperature the first several hours of life. Baby calves have a circulatory system that is less able to respond to cold changes as compared to more mature animals.” Whittier added.
While weather conditions have a huge impact on the chances of hypothermia and frostbite with the wind being a big contributor, Whitter continued by stating that “Newborn calves are most at risk because they are wet and because they have a large surface area in relation to their total body mass.
