It has been confirmed officially by Warner Bros. this Tuesday that Matrix will be getting another movie. Neo and Trinity are returning, still portrayed by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell will also join as co-writers and Grant Hill also be a producer, Variety reports.

Lana spoke about her excitement for the next installment: “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

The plot is still yet unknown, but Variety reports that producers aim to begin filming early next year. Warner Bros also hasn’t specified whether it will be a direct sequel as they simply stated that it’ll be a movie set in the world of Matrix.

The trilogy of ‘Matrix’ began in 1999 when it became a box office hit and continue with sequels “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions”. All three movies made $1.6 billion by 2003 at the global box office. It has been 20 years since the first movie and special screenings are held in the US later this month.
