Square Enix Reveals Marvel’s Avengers game will offer four-player co-op and singleplayer

spoiler: The game’s all-new story won’t be tied to the MCU.

January 2017 marked the first part of what was described as a “multi-year, multi-game partnership” between Square Enix and Marvel that will see Square Enix’ Crystal Dynamics studio develop titles based on the popular superhero universe. This week, it was revealed that the first title is probably called Marvel’s Avengers that’s getting properly revealed at the Square Enix’s E3 2019 show.

According to Marvel, the game will feature a completely new and original story, and will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. Packed with characters, iconic moments and far-away galaxy environment, Marvel hopes the project will thrill gamers to unprecedented levels.

Although a premature listing, the E3 Coliseum website further reveals that the game will be both singleplayer and multiplayer with up to four players teaming up in what is considered ‘the defining Avengers game experience’.

A description in the website says” Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat.”

Square Enix is expected to release the full details of the game in their own E3 conference this year, on Monday, June 10th at 6 pm PT.

With the reveal of the original teaser trailer in 2017, the description said: “more details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018”. Its been a long wait for gamers and Marvel enthusiasts.

A story for Marvel’s Avengers was released as part of the trailer description that confirmed the game’s all-new story won’t be tied to the MCU.

“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.”

The E3 coliseum lets us in on a lot of details about the game. The continuously singleplayer and co-op’ action adventure’ game means that you can “master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers”.

As for the release date, it’s probably a while away. Most speculations place it to drop in 2020 with the arrival of the next generation consoles. Bu then, maybe Square Enix will surprise us ey?
