YouTube’s Gaming App Finally Shutting Down on May 30th

The YouTube gaming app is finally shutting down on May 30th. Earlier YouTube had disclosed its intention to shut down the App having stated that the spinoff has been causing quite a lot of confusion among its gaming fans. To this effect, YouTube integrated the service into its main app and launched a game-focused hub, replacing the old YouTube Gaming App.

The YouTube gaming fans are now being directed to the new hub via an help page sited by Waterballoon. Interestingly, YouTube has equally merged both the subscription for YouTube and YouTube Gaming, nevertheless players will lose the archive of games they have previously saved.

“We want to continue to build a stronger home for the gaming community that thrives on YouTube, not just the YouTube Gaming app. After May 2019, we’ll retire the YouTube Gaming app and focus our gaming efforts across YouTube”

The YouTube Gaming App was however launched in 2015. It was promoted as a means to improve online streaming experience and to also keep away from gaming fans irrelevant content. Google had originally said that the standalone app would be killed off in March 2019, but the company missed that deadline. Whatever the reason for the delay was, it looks like the app will indeed be gone for good in just couple of days.
